Lehua blossoms on an ‘ohia tree.  In her wrath, Pele turned ‘Ohia into a tree.  Devastated, Lehua demanded Pele turn her into a flower, so she would never be separated from ‘Ohia again.  Plucking a lehua blossom from an ‘ohia tree brings rain, the tears of the separated lovers.
